The Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi), the first World Bank-led facility to advance women’s entrepreneurship at this scale, will work to enable more than $1 billion of financing to improve access to capital, provide technical assistance, and invest in other projects and programs that support women and women-led SMEs in World Bank Group client countries.

The United States initiated the idea for the facility and will serve as a founding member along with other donor countries. The goal of the facility is to leverage donor grant funding – currently over US$325 million – to unlock more than $1 billion in IFI and commercial financing by working with financial intermediaries, funds, and other market actors.

The World Bank Group was invited to create the facility by the United States and Germany, given the Bank Group’s deep experience, track record, and strong learning and innovation agenda. more…

Four-Time Grammy Award-winning R&B group Boyz II Men will perform at MISS UNIVERSE, airing LIVE from the Philippines Sunday, Jan. 29 (7:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

The legendary musical act, known for their smooth harmonies, holds the distinction of being the best-selling R&B group of all time, with an astounding 64 million albums sold. Additionally, this year’s judges who will help crown the next Miss Universe include:

Dayanara Torres: Former UNICEF ambassador and Miss Universe from Puerto Rico, author, model, and actress.

Sushmita Sen: Bollywood actress, philanthropist and champion of women’s rights in India; founder of I AM Foundation and first ever Miss Universe from India.

Leila Lopes: First Miss Universe from Angola and former United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for Desertification currently working with various charitable organizations in Africa.

Mickey Boardman: Editorial Director of popular fashion and pop-culture magazine, PAPER.

Cynthia Bailey: TV star, former model, and founder of The Bailey Agency School of Fashion, a modeling and fashion school dedicated to helping young women achieve their dreams.

Francine LeFrak: Emmy� and Tony award-winning producer, social entrepreneur, women’s empowerment activist and founder of Same Sky, a jewelry initiative that provides training and employment to HIV+ women survivors of the Rwandan Genocide.

 

 

JUDGES PANEL GLOBAL FAN VOTE NOW UNDERWAY

Starting today through January 28, the voting window is open for fans to vote for their favorite contestant and help her earn a spot in the Top 12. Fans are able to vote up to 10 times per day per registered account via vote.missuniverse.com, the official MISS U APP, on Twitter by using #MissUniverse and the country specific hashtag found on the voting site, or by downloading the new mobile messaging app, Vodi.

Additionally, fans will have the opportunity to continue voting during the telecast. For each round of the competition, viewers will have 10 votes to distribute amongst the semi-finalists ultimately allowing them to help choose the winner of Miss Universe. This year’s three-hour MISS UNIVERSE special programming event is giving fans more opportunities to get to know the contestants.

NEW YORK – October 28, 2015 – IMG and The Miss Universe Organization today announced “THE 64th ANNUAL MISS UNIVERSE® PAGEANT” has been picked up by Fox Broadcasting Company (FOX). The three-hour annual event will air live from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Sunday, Dec. 20 (7:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. As part of IMG’s agreement with FOX to broadcast MISS UNIVERSE®, the network will also have domestic rights to air MISS USA®.

The MISS UNIVERSE® telecast is one of the most-watched events in the world, with distribution in approximately 190 countries and territories. The MISS USA® Pageant, which will air in 2016 on FOX, features contestants from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The winner of MISS USA® goes on to compete for the title of Miss Universe.
As previously announced, WME | IMG wholly acquired The Miss Universe Organization in September 2015, expanding the company’s portfolio of global events and media properties across entertainment and live events. Moscow, Russia – November 9, 2013 – In front of a worldwide audience of approximately 1 billion viewers, Miss Universe Venezuela, Gabriela Isler was crowned Miss Universe 2013 from Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia. The 62nd Annual MISS UNIVERSE® Competition was broadcast on NBC with a Spanish simulcast on Telemundo.

Miss Universe Venezuela, Gabriela Isler is the 7th young woman to take home the Miss Universe crown from Venezuela. The 25 year-old college graduate with a marketing degree enjoys flamenco dancing and baking when she is not modeling. She is from the town of Maracay, Venezuela, right outside of Caracas, the country’s capital.

Thomas Roberts, anchor of (“MSNBC Live”) and Melanie Brown, best known to audiences as Mel B (“America’s Got Talent”), co-hosted the pageant. Jeannie Mai, recognized for her fashion segments on NBC’s “Today,” served as commentator.

The judges who sealed the fate of this year’s winner included: Steven Tyler, Aerosmith’s front man and lead singer; Chef Nobu, acclaimed chef proprietor of Nobu and Matsuhisa restaurants; Tara Lipinski, Gold medal figure skater and 2014 Winter Olympics figure skating analyst for NBC Olympics’ multi-platform coverage; Carol Alt, TV personality, star of Fox News Channel’s ‘A HEALTHY YOU AND CAROL ALT’, international supermodel, actress, author, entrepreneur and raw-food enthusiast; Anne V, supermodel, actress, philanthropist and mentor on Oxygen’s upcoming season of “The Face” with nine consecutive appearances in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue; Farouk Shami, founder of Farouk Systems, Inc. makers of CHI and presenting hair care sponsor of the 2013 MISS UNIVERSE® Competition; Italo Fontana, pioneering designer of U-BOAT Watches; and Philip Kirkorov, iconic Russian pop-star .

In addition to his judging duties, Steven Tyler took the stage for a special performance. Tyler and the celebrity judges joined an exciting broadcast that included performances by Grammy-nominated band Panic! At The Disco and international recording artist EMIN.

Throughout the MISS UNIVERSE Competition, contestants representing 86 countries competed in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and interview. The telecast concluded with Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo crowning her successor.
